Encouraging the Church

Desiring to promote encourage believers to think about life within the context of the Bible, I birthed this blog in 2013. I attempt to accomplish this mission in three ways.

Peter W

First, I regularly seek to bring the theology of Jesus to bear upon issues that profoundly shape the local church, American culture, and the world. I happily and unashamedly appeal to the Scriptures as my authority when writing. In many ways 2 Timothy 2:16-17 is the foundation of thinking. It says,

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. – 2 Timothy 3:16-17

These blogs have been featured on Family Research Council website, the Historical Theology Website, Credo Magazine Website, and on Tim Challies Blog.

Second, this website features memos that contain important family and ministry updates.

Third, the blog houses the blogs that chronicled April’s fight with stage four breast cancer. She lost her fight on June 25, 2022. Those older post reflect the very essence of our hearts as they wrestled with God in the midst of suffering. I hope the testimony of God’s grace in my life and of God’s faithfulness to dearest April encourages your faith. Thanks for reading, praying, and loving me and my little family!

  1. Peter, I don’t expect you to remember me. We were both participants in the CBMA at Capitol Hill Baptist several years ago. I left the group in 2019 shortly after “retiring” from my pastorate in Temple Hills. I shared your intense burden and was deeply moved with the way in which you navigated the difficult days of April’s illness and passing. My wife and I prayed often for her, you, and your children. Because our daughter lives in your general direction and I occasionally preach not far from you, we will drive through Amissville and past your church. I often come across your blog posts and find myself challenged as I read them. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your degree of thought, transparency and level of faith in our covenant-keeping Lord. I regret that I couldn’t have gotten to know you better. I just wanted to take a moment to express gratitude for your early and ongoing ministry to me (an older pastor) from afar. I trust you are doing well and your church is prospering in the Lord. Thank you for staying the course and remaining faithful to Christ Jesus and His Church. Blessings, dear brother.

I do remember you. Thank you for the note of encouragement and for rejoicing with me in our God’s faithfulness! He has been so very good to me these last several years. The next time you are in the area, you’ll have to stop by ABC or shoot me a note and we can grab coffee or the like.
